As part of Transformative Territories, Tavros is developing the Vanishing Landscapes project. Vanishing Landscapes will create a paradigmatic shift in the way we think, see and experience the environmental crisis; highlighting the impact arts & culture can play in short and long term climate solutions; working towards healing, resilience and sustainability in rural areas of Greece.
To achieve this, Travos will reimagine the Vaso Katraki Museum as an institution that promotes a much-needed space for communities to gather, learn and enjoy, fulfilling its original aim of being an active community space for the arts, with exhibition spaces, printmaking workshops and gardens, surrounded by the lagoon. The project also aims to disseminate knowledge about the valuable resources of the Messolonghi – Aitoliko Lagoon area, which is home to a wide range of threatened flora and fauna; and to involve the local community in protecting the area through interdisciplinary collaboration.
For the project, Tavros is teaming up with Yiannis Papadopoulos, who will lead a four-day workshop for architecture students from the neighboring University of Patras, looking at how to represent landscapes that are slowly dissolving before our eyes. The students will revive the printmaking studios and create a series of posters inspired by the natural environment and the species inhabiting it to be used in the local schools and the public spaces of Aitoliko. The project will be in collaboration with Messolonghi-Aitoliko Lagoon Management Agency and will be accompanied by bird-watching sessions and informative meetings with local environmentalists and fishermen.
Finally, Travos will welcome artist Nuno da Luz, winner of the COAL 2024 Award for Transformative Territories, to take part in the Vanishing Landscapes project.
