OUT:HERE Queer Šumava is an initiative by ArtMill as part of the Transformative Territories program. It aims to create a safe space for marginalized communities, particularly LGBTQIA+ individuals and environmental activists, to engage in eco-social transformation and healing. This initiative challenges heteronormative, capitalist structures while promoting civic engagement through inclusive, regenerative practices and community-building.
In a world where queer rights often lag behind, OUT:HERE seeks to offer a space for connection, healing, and learning. Historically overlooked, criminalized, and marginalized, LGBTQIA+ communities have found refuge in creating spaces that foster belonging, mutual support, and care. This initiative is particularly significant in Central and Eastern Europe, where queer rights remain under threat due to systemic inequality, discrimination, and limited government support in countries like the Czech Republic.
As right-wing populism continues to rise globally, the intersection of queer ecology and resistance against oppressive systems is crucial. This perspective aligns with broader eco-social justice movements, including decolonial, anti-fascist, antiracist, and climate justice discourses.
Event :
In August 2025, ArtMill will launch a healing program that transforms the site into a queer-ecological sanctuary. The program will include workshops and community gatherings that integrate queer ecology with somatic practices, creative arts, and environmental activism.
The workshops aim to explore themes of inter-species relationality, healing, and coexistence among all beings—human and more-than-human. Through these activities, the program aspires to challenge oppressive systems and inspire a new understanding of coexistence rooted in care and mutual respect. This innovative program will take place at the ArtMill Center for Regenerative Arts, fostering a vision of inclusivity and transformation.
